2011 INDY 500 CHAMP DAN WHELDON DIES IN VEGAS

EXCLUSIVE PHOTO:

This photo was taken just minutes before the start of the INDYCAR race in Las Vegas this afternoon. The photo was shot by Tom Donoghue.

A very nice young man and favorite of NASCAR enthusiasts as well, this years Indianapolis 500 Champ Dan Wheldon was only  33 and was allegedly frustrated with his car before the race! He was competing for a $5 million bonus when a fiery crash on LAP 12 ended his life.

Wheldon was a due to replace Danica Patrick as the goDaddy.com driver next year. His number 77 car was one of 15 cars involved in the crash and the tires of two cars touched and burst into flames.

Several cars caught on fire. The race was cancelled.

May he rest in peace. Prayers of comfort are needed for all who witnessed this horrible tragedy and Dan's family.
