YOUR FRIDAY MORNING DEVOTION!

PART 3
By Evinda Lepins
(Conclusion Tomorrow)
If this is your first time, I invite you to check out the archives for the beginning of it so you don’t feel as though you’re lost. I think we started like the 2nd of March and there’s been several diamonds along the way, so it will definitely be worth your while. :)Grab your coffee and come on in.

Mephibosheth is standing before David who has just promised to restore to him his grandfather’s land and after Mephibosheth exclaims his humility and refers to himself as a dead dog, David proceeds to solidify his promises and restore Mephibosheth’s dignity in a way that he and others can never forget.

Remember, Mephibosheth came crippled in both feet, full of shame, an outcast, absolutely no confidence whatsoever, and no joy, no hope. Can you relate with any of those feelings? Well, Jonathan’s servant Ziba (Jonathan is the deceased BFF of David and the son of Saul, the deceased grandfather of Mephibosheth) is standing there all this time watching this — I wish I was him, that is until I read what happens next. :)—

David calls him and says I have given to your master’s son (Mephibosheth) all that belonged to Saul and to all his house.” DETOUR AHEAD!

In other words, this crippled guy who had been nothing up to now, who has nothing but a place to lay his head suddenly is getting all that belonged to his grandfather. My head is spinning as I taste the humility that Ziba must have felt, knowing that their roles had been reversed with the snap of a finger; and then I am inclined to my knees in further humility for Mephibosheth. How does one go from being nothing, having nothing, to being so special, so important and having so much? Let’s chew on that a bit as we look at the rest of David’s promises of restoration.

You therefore, and your sons and your servants, shall work the land for him (Mephibosheth), and you shall bring in the harvest, that your master’s son may have food to eat.” In other words, they all work for Mephibosheth now! “But Mephibosheth, your master’s son, shall eat bread at my table always.DETOUR AHEAD!

So whether there’s food or not from the harvest, Mephibosheth is guaranteed food at the King’s table! This is another diamond sparkling ever so brilliantly. See, just like Mephibosheth, we are guaranteed a place at the King’s table, both here on earth and in heaven. We don’t have to wait until eternity to be taken care of, to sit at His table. That’s one thing.

Another thing is not so obvious, and that is the promise that our King will always provide for us, in seasons of plenty and in seasons of scarcity! Okay, back to Mephibosheth.

So Ziba has just been instructed who his new master is, so to speak, and he humbly replies,According to all that my lord the King has commanded his servant, so will your servant do.” And then David returns his focus to Mephibosheth and says again, he shall eat at my table like one of the king’s sons.

Do you realize that that was the third time David said this in the course of this conversation? Oh, how I am much like Mephibosheth, needing to be reminded time and time again of our King’s faithfulness, His provision, His promises of restoration.
